Terrestrial portion:
- There is a lot of moisture circulating through the top portion as seen in the condensation forming on the top. - No plant growth to date. Aquatic portion: - A lot of condensation forming. - The elodea continues to grow. - Snails are alive and well -Terrestrial portion has no progress with plant growth.
We believe that the daphnia died because we cannot find them at all, even after looking through a magnifying glass. We entered three daphnia into our terrarium. We noticed a small speck on the side of aquatic bottle, we believe that it is a baby snail. That means that the snails are reproducing. We still do NOT have any plant growth. One group member believes because we do not have enough water in our terrarium. Another one believes because we cut too much of our bottle so our terrarium is too low. Our plant on the lower part has definitely grew. I wonder if it grew because of the spring water.
Top Level -soil looks dry -there is a lot of condensation forming at the top -no plant growth has occurred Bottom Level -condensation has formed around the -plant is still green but starting to turn brown in places -water is getting dirtier -algae is forming on the string Plants The plants on the bottom level are growing out of the water. The plant has actually began to grow. I think it is pretty cool that it has grown without soil. We planted 5 flower seeds and none of them has sprouted. I believe that either the soil is TOO dry or there is not enough water in the bottom level.
This week our terrarium looks a little different. There is still no plant growth in the terrestrial part of the terrarium and the soil looks dried out. In the aquatic part of the terrarium the water is murky, the snails look dead, and there is something brown growing on the string coming down from the terrestrial part.
We Wonder: - Is the water level dependent on the growth? - Will are flowers sprout next week? - Soil looks a little dry
- Mild condensation on the top, only formed on one side - Condensation around the rim of the bottom - No plant growth, yet - Water on the bottom looks a little murky, algae floating around - Water level is the same height ( 11.8 cm) - Daphnea are not visible We made our terrarium and it was very fun! Our materials include:
We wonder..... How will the ecosystem work? How will the organisms survive? So far, the snails are stationary and we do not have any plant growth (elodea looks healthy). We put three daphnia into our terrarium and they are very small. We also planted five flower seeds and we hope they start to grow soon! |
